How long does the first sync take?
Updated 5 days ago
Most first syncs finish within a few minutes to a couple of hours. Many HRIS connectors, including Workday, ADP and BambooHR, fall in that range. The exact time depends on the integration, how many employees your customer has, and how many API calls the source system needs per record.
When the first sync starts
The first sync starts as soon as your customer finishes authorizing the connection, whether they used a Magic Link or the Embedded SDK. It reads every model in scope.
Until the first sync finishes, reads return 200 with partial data, and nothing in the response says so. Wait for the sync to complete before you show data or run mappings.
Track progress in the dashboard
Open the connector's Sync tab. A running sync shows a percentage and an estimate of the time left.
Track progress through the API
Get Connectors returns these fields for each connector:
Field | What it tells you |
|---|---|
|
|
| Progress of a running sync from |
| Employee counts, filled in after the first sync completes |
| Average sync time, for example |
Rather than polling, subscribe to the connector_synced webhook. It fires when a sync finishes successfully, which is the clearest signal that a new connection is ready to use.
If it's taking longer than expected
Let it finish. Large employee populations and integrations that need many calls per record take longer. If the sync fails, the connector's Sync tab shows which models failed and why.
